Today marks a critical day in New York with regard to same sex marriage. The New York Times reports that as of this afternoon no decision has been reached in Albany regarding the Marriage Equality Act. That said, it seems that more so than ever, the people of New York are leaning towards equality in marriage and recognition of gay rights. Personally, I hope that this hurdle in the path to the equality of the institution of marriage will be overcome as more and more states begin to move in the direction of recognizing this human right of marriage.
If you are looking for an interesting read exploring the institution of marriage, pick up Elizabeth Gilbert's Committed. In this work of non-fiction, the author of Eat, Pray, Love writes about love, marriage, and, of course, travel!
