So as you may know, I am currently in Vancouver. For those of you who have seen The Holiday, where the characters (Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet) switch homes; one heads to sunny Los Angeles and the other to a picturesque snow covered cottage in Surrey, England, we are currently staying in the home of a couple who is right now in New York City in our lovely apartment. It is definitely nice to stay in someone's home as opposed to a hotel, and the fact that we wake up each morning to a view of English Bay and Stanley Park right out our window isn't bad either...!
Although everything in regards to switching keys and apartments has gone smoothly and successfully, we did have a funny case of mistaken identity tonight after returning home from some wine overlooking the water... Many of the high rise apartment buildings in downtown Vancouver look the same-especially, perhaps, to an outsider. We walked up the street, distracted by the fact that a skunk just crossed our path (now that's something that you don't see in New York City!) and wandered into a building that, at first glance mirrored the one we are staying in. We hit "12" on the elevator and talked as we rode it up. Upon arriving at the 12th floor, we walked to apartment 1206 and put the key in the lock only to realize it wasn't working. After (what was really far too long) an amount of time, it dawned on us that we were not in the right building and upon this discovery, we hightailed it out of there! Ahh yes, the dangers of "the switch!"
That said, Vancouver is wonderful (and seventy degrees and sunny!). On our first lovely day here we enjoyed an amazing brunch at The Twisted Fork, which I highly recommend, a hike through Stanley Park's redwood trees, gardens, golf courses, and beaches, and some lovely shopping (which included this place that carries the most adorable cupcake decorating kits by Meri Meri that I am now in love with!) A full Vancouver update when I return, but in the meantime, book your tickets because this place...this place is awesome!
